MAGEZESI FC WENT STRAIGHT TO RELEGATION

Seshego Stadium became a scene of pure emotion on Saturday, where Zimbabwean international and Magesi FC captain Elvis Chipezeze endured one of the most painful nights of his career as his side were relegated from the Betway Premiership following a 1-1 draw against Milford FC.

For Chipezeze, it was not just a match — it was the collapse of a season-long fight for survival, ending with him standing on the pitch in visible heartbreak, later comforted by his children in a moment that captured the emotional weight of football.

Chipezeze, known for his experience, composure, and leadership, once again marshalled Magesi FC from the back, playing the full 90 minutes in a high-pressure encounter that demanded total focus.

Magesi FC started with belief, and when Edmore Chirambadare scored in the 14th minute, there was hope that survival could still be achieved. As captain, Chipezeze kept his side organised and fought to maintain control in a match that carried enormous stakes.

But football can be unforgiving.

When Menzi Chili equalised for Milford FC in the 59th minute, the pressure shifted heavily onto Magesi — and onto their captain, who now had to lead a team chasing not just a win, but their top-flight status.

Despite their efforts, the breakthrough never came.

As the final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw, it also confirmed Magesi FC’s relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

For Chipezeze, the moment was overwhelming.

The veteran goalkeeper, who has carried responsibility throughout a difficult season, was left visibly emotional on the pitch. In a powerful scene that reflected the human side of football, he was comforted by his children as the reality of relegation set in.

It was a moment that went beyond tactics, results, or standings — a father, a captain, and a professional facing the weight of disappointment in front of a home crowd.

Chipezeze’s 2025/26 campaign with Magesi FC has been defined by pressure, resilience, and leadership through adversity.

Magesi only narrowly avoided automatic relegation on the final day of the regular season with a crucial 1-0 win over Richards Bay FC, finishing 15th and entering the playoffs with their Premiership survival still alive
