The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is pleased to announce that Lilian Ngoyi Street will officially reopen to traffic on Friday, 12 September 2025, following the successful completion of Phase 1 of the Rehabilitation Project. The newly reconstructed section, between Loveday and End streets, will operate as a one-way eastbound road.
- Fully open intersections: Rissik, Joubert, Eloff, Von Brandis, and Wanderers streets.
- Continued closures: Access to and from Loveday Street and Kruis Street at Lilian Ngoyi Street will remain closed until further notice.
This milestone reflects JRA’s commitment to delivering a safe, integrated and liveable inner city, aligned with Johannesburg’s Inner-city Transport Master Plan. The redesigned corridor supports a multi-modal transport system that balances the needs of motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users.
