ZOË MODIGA FINDS BEAUTY IN LIFE’S UNEXPECTED SEASONS WITH “WHEN THE RAIN COMES”

South African multi-award-winning songstress, songwriter and performer Zoë Modiga returns with “When The Rain Comes,” a reflective new single that explores adversity, renewal and the perspective that comes with moving through life’s changing seasons.

The song draws inspiration from the familiar 17th-century nursery rhyme “Rain, Rain Go Away, Come Again Another Day,” transforming a childhood plea into a more nuanced meditation on adulthood. Where rain once represented an interruption to play, Modiga reimagines it as a metaphor for life’s storms—moments that can unsettle, frighten and disrupt, but can also create the conditions for restoration and growth.

“Much like life’s storms, though it can be frightening when it thunders and storms, it is also a source of restoration and life. Knowing that is a warmth within itself, I pray those who aren’t anchored in that find it,” Modiga explains.

This philosophy gives “When The Rain Comes” its emotional centre. Rather than approaching hardship solely through the language of endurance, Modiga considers the possibility that difficult seasons can hold their own form of nourishment. The song encourages a shift in perspective: to understand that not everything that interrupts our plans is necessarily working against us.

Sonically, the release reflects Modiga’s expansive approach to African music. Her work moves fluidly across African indigenous sounds, soul, jazz, experimental and alternative influences, creating a musical language that is contemporary without losing its cultural grounding.

“When The Rain Comes” forms part of “The Vault,” Modiga’s latest body of work, which has already introduced listeners to singles including “Something New,” “Low” and “Did I Do My Thing.” The latter has received healthy rotation across music video stations, further extending the project’s reach.

Born in Durban and raised in Pietermaritzburg’s eMbali 1, Modiga has dedicated herself to music from an early age. Her journey has developed into an expansive artistic practice that encompasses music, storytelling, fashion and cultural expression, with each becoming a vehicle through which she explores identity and the human experience.

With “The Vault” available now, Zoë Modiga continues to build an artistic legacy rooted in intentionality, experimentation and cultural expression. “When The Rain Comes” adds a quietly powerful chapter to that legacy—reminding listeners that even in the midst of uncertainty, something restorative can be taking place beneath the surface.
