Vuma and Soweto maestro strike a chord: Bridging connectivity and creativity for a vibrant community

With over 2 million YouTube views on his hit song, Gigabyte, a song he produced and co-composed five years ago, Vuyisile Mathwasa, AKA DJ Vusinator, blew up in a big way. It had taken him years of hard work to become ‘an overnight success.’  Now, 12 years later, into his DJing journey the sky is the limit. In celebration of his successful DJing career, Vusinator is organising a massive 10-hour set at Mabuto’s pub in Chiawelo, Soweto on 30 March 2024. It promises to be epic.

“People forget that when I started my music career in 2012, I would sometimes play for 12 hours, so I want to remind my supporters what I am capable of. I want to give my fans a chance to see what I can do in the DJ booth,” explained Vusinator.

Humble beginnings

When he started his career, the South African music industry was much different. This is when tracks such as Eargasms by MFR Souls and 7 Steps by Calvin Fallo, had the country in a chokehold. Amapiano was still in its infancy, and no one knew that it would one day take over the world. Back then, Vusinator was still learning the ropes, and unwittingly preparing for a career that would transcend borders.

“I started my music career back in 2012 and by 2016 I was producing my own music. In 2017 my first song Nomfundo was received well by fans and that put me on the map. The next year I released Gigabyte and 12 months later my life changed,” says Vusinator.

“Amapiano has truly been a blessing from God. From where we started, playing in bars and taverns, to so many of us now being international superstars. It has changed people’s lives in such a short space of time and that makes me proud.”

Creating connections

Beyond the beats, Vusinator’s success has opened doors to exciting collaborations and opportunities. Embracing a collaborative spirit, he joined forces with Vuma, South Africa’s leading fibre network operator, to create an influencer campaign that seamlessly blends connectivity and creativity in Soweto. Lianne Williams, Marketing Director at Vuma, praises Vusinator’s journey as a homegrown success story and hopes the partnership will inspire others to recognise the power of connectivity in achieving personal and joint success.

“We love collaborating with homegrown artists, working together to reach and connect with broader communities. to help young people unlock their potential through online opportunities enabled by fibre. This empowerment and collaboration can assist them in launching their careers and enables them to inspire and uplift others,” she says.

In the meantime, Vusinator’s star is rising just as fast as Amapiano which means the sky is the limit. He’s working on a new project and the world could hear his next hit playing at the next massive award show.
