A Partnership Focused on Giving Soweto’s Elders a Clearer Vision for Life
Vision for All and Soweto TV have joined forces in a community-focused partnership aimed at improving access to eye care and better vision for elderly residents across Soweto.
The partnership officially began on 16 June 2026, with a shared vision of making a meaningful difference in the lives of elders by helping identify vision challenges and connecting those in need with appropriate eye-care support.
The initiative recognises that good vision plays an important role in an elderly person’s independence, dignity, mobility and overall quality of life.
About Vision for All
Vision for All is an initiative focused on improving access to eye-care services for communities that may face barriers to receiving regular vision screenings and treatment.
Through its outreach programmes, Vision for All works to identify people experiencing vision difficulties and help connect them with the appropriate support, including eye examinations, prescribed spectacles and referrals for further medical attention where required.
The organisation’s work is driven by the belief that access to better vision can contribute significantly to a person’s quality of life.
The Role of Soweto TV
As a community television platform, Soweto TV plays an important role in informing, connecting and empowering communities through relevant local content and community-driven initiatives.
Through this partnership, Soweto TV is using its platform and community reach to support the vision-care initiative, raise awareness and help bring attention to the importance of eye health among Soweto’s elderly population.
The partnership reflects Soweto TV’s broader purpose of serving the community not only through broadcasting, but also by supporting initiatives that have a positive social impact.
Second Phase: Follow-Up Eye Check-Ups
Today marked the second phase of the Vision for All initiative.
Following the initial screenings, participating elders returned for final check-ups to assess their vision and determine the appropriate next steps for each individual.
Based on the results of the final assessments, elders who require spectacles will receive prescribed glasses, while those who require additional medical attention will be referred to the appropriate healthcare services for further assistance.
This follow-up phase is an important part of the programme because it ensures that the initial screenings translate into practical support and meaningful outcomes for the beneficiaries.
A Shared Vision for Soweto
The partnership between Vision for All and Soweto TV goes beyond a single community initiative. It represents a shared commitment to using collaboration, community engagement and media to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
For the elders of Soweto, the initiative is ultimately about more than eyesight. It is about helping people see better, live with greater independence and continue participating fully in their families and communities.
Vision for All and Soweto TV believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to see their world more clearly.
