TuksSport High School’s top matric ”soloed” to six distinctions

The TuksSport High School matriculant Chris-Dian Haasbroek proved with his six distinctions that anything is possible through hard work and dedication.

The lyrics of the song “My Way”, sung by Frank Sinatra, are somewhat descriptive of how the 19-year-old’s life played out. He certainly did it his way.

Haasbroek stayed on his own in a flat for the last three years. It meant he had to run a household, plan his own meals, clean etc. In between, he practised improving his golf swing and too ‘put and chip’ as he is a junior provincial golfer. Then he still had to attend classes and study.

There were days when he had to get up early to go to the gym. Before he did so, he prepared a scrambled eggs breakfast. After school, he could practise golf for up to three hours. It meant sometimes he only got home at about seven at night. Then he still had to prepare a meal and study. When there was load-shedding, he went to study in the hpc restaurant at the Tuks Sports Campus.

It was as Sinatra sang – “I did what I had to do, I saw it through without exemption, I planned each charted course.”

According to Haasbroek, the secret to acing his matric exams is quite simple.
