Tshwane Prime League Concept Document

Tshwane District is rich in talented Netball Players. As Tshwane Netball, we discovered that
many players who don’t get chosen to play in their school A teams or get placement in the 1st
teams of their Institutions, don’t get as many participation opportunities to play throughout the
year and a lot of uncovered talent lies deep within these players.
What we further noticed is Sometimes, top players on the court are not seen or recognized in

the District/Provincial teams, and often, because of a lack of experience and a lack of sufficient
court time, they do not know how to present themselves when playing trials, possibly due to
their positional playing ability, their skills and their adaptability on court. What makes the TPL
platform unique, is that no more than two players from the same school or team may be
selected in the same age group team. This provides more opportunities to more players to play,
make friends, and learn skills.

Furthermore, it provides an opportunity to empower, identify, and develop coaches, umpires,
team managers, and technical officials with a sustainable participation opportunity.
As we know, Tshwane District is rich in talented Netball Players and for this, we have embraced
the TPL. Through TPL we will bring together all the talent in an exciting 5-weeks of competition
where teams in the various age groups will go up against each other to be crowned the winners
of TPL 2024.

The TPL is based on the concept that is currently run by the National Premier League (NPL)
both in South Africa and abroad for Cricket and Hockey and most recently Padel and now
Netball, with a current social media platform reach of more than 700 000 people.
Chairperson: Riana Bezuidenhout; Vice Chairperson: Christinah Ndlovu; Secretary: Clarissa
Strachan; Convenor Coaches and Selection: CarinStrauss; Treasurer: Alta Du Preez; League
Convenor: Lifalethu Khumalo; Male Convenor: Torrence Mofokeng; Co-Opted (Marketing)
Realeboga Rakghota; Co-Opted (Umpire and Technical Coordinator); Magriet Bester

What is very important to note, is that TPL does not replace the current Tshwane Regional
leagues. TPL is another league participation opportunity taking place over 5 weeks per season.
It caters for a combination of growth, development and high performance participation. Further
to this, in a bid to continuously increase the number of registered players, identify talent and
create participation databases, TPL is open for both registered and unregistered players. All
TPL players who are not registered members, will be registered in Tshwane and then at Netball
South Africa, increasing the numbers and increasing the reach. TPL is another branch of the
T

LP (Tshwane Legacy Program) and the 4 pillars of excellence within Tshwane Netball. It is part
of the evolution of growth, of sustainability and providing more opportunities.
Furthermore, TPL is the perfect platform for coaches, umpires and technical official
development and court time. In providing an opportunity for 48 coaches, 48 assistant coaches,
96 umpires and a host of technical staff, this is the platform to hone in on and practice your
skills.

As Tshwane we can proudly say that in build up to TPL, over the weekend of 26 July, we hosted
● L1 Coaching Course with 45 new L1 Coaches
● Technical official course with 25 new technical officials
● L1 and L2 Umpires course with 70 Umpires
Our coaches will also attend a coaching course presented by SA National Coaches Jenny van
Dyk and Zanele Mdodona.
All these attendees will get practical experience during TPL.
The Concept:

● TPL caters for males and females. It caters for age groups U/12, U/14, U/15, U/16, U/17,
U/19 and Seniors .
