The Source Collective Brings Anticipated Afro Tech Event to Johannesburg in October

Set to be one of Johannesburg’s much-anticipated Afro Tech events, The Source Collective lands at Sognage venue on Friday9 October.

An immersive audiovisual event that reimagines what a live electronic music experience can be, The Source Collective will see every performance designed as a cinematic journey – where music, visuals, lighting and storytelling come together to create something far beyond a traditional DJ set.

More than a night out, The Source Collective is about creating meaningful experiences. Attendees are to leave with something they didn’t arrive with – a new friendship, a fresh perspective, inspiration, or simply the feeling of having been part of something unforgettable.

Born of two ideas, a creative and human one – pushing the boundaries of live electronic music by designing custom audiovisual stories that evolve alongside each artists’ performance and creating an environment where music becomes a catalyst for genuine connection, reflection and shared moments that stay with people long after the event ends.

The Source Collective represents returning to origins – where music, storytelling, rhythm and human connection all began. It reflects the idea of reconnecting with something authentic in an increasingly distracted world.

“Collective” represents the people – the artists, creatives, audience and partners all contribute to creating an experience that is bigger than any one individual.

The purpose of The Source Collective is not only to entertain, but to create experiences that leave a lasting impact.

A lineup of live electronic music performance has been carefully curated to feature respected artists who embody authenticity, musical depth and emotional storytelling.

Beyond the production, everything is designed with intention. Guests can expect carefully curated Afro House, Afro Tech, Deep House and melodic Electronic music from artists who are known for creating emotional musical journeys.

The exciting, soon-to-be announced DJ lineup will see each name perform within a custom-designed story that unfolds throughout their sets. Music, visuals, lighting and production will all evolve together to create a fully immersive experience – unlike a conventional DJ performance.

Rather than using repetitive visual loops, every performance is built around an original narrative where visuals, music, lighting and production evolve together. Each artist performs inside their own cinematic world – creating an experience that feels closer to stepping into a film than attending a traditional music event.

The event’s aim is to build a community of people who value creativity, curiosity, respect and meaningful experiences. A community where strangers become friends – where music becomes a shared language and where people leave feeling inspired by both the artists and the people around them.

The Source Collective was founded by a team passionate about pushing the creative boundaries of live Electronic music while creating experiences that genuinely bring people together. The project combines a love for music, storytelling, production design and community into one unified vision.

Electronic music deserves a new kind of live experience and Johannesburg has become one of the world’s most influential cities for Afro House, Afro Tech music. The Source Collective hopes to contribute to that legacy by introducing a new standard for immersive audiovisual experiences while celebrating the creativity, artistry and cultural significance of South Africa’s music scene.

The Source Collective began with a simple belief that music has the power to do more than entertain. It has the power to move people, connect strangers and create moments that stay with us long after the night is over. We wanted to push the creative boundaries of electronic music by transforming DJ performances into cinematic audiovisual journeys, while creating an environment where people leave with something they didn’t have before they arrived. What excites me most is welcoming people into this world for the very first time. This inaugural event is only the beginning of a much bigger vision, and we invite everyone to experience where that journey starts“, says Founder of The Source Collective – Zach Sher.

The Source Collective actively welcomes conversations with brands, organisations and creative partners who align with the vision of immersive experiences, innovation, music and community.
