Led by Chairperson, Honourable Thulani Ndlovu, the Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts, Culture & Recreation, has conveyed heartfelt to the Moeti family, following the passing of Bafana Bafana midfielder John “Dunga” Moeti.
The legend was part of the indomitable national squad of 1995 that was coached by Clive Barker. Among other landmark victories, the side made waves for winning the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“Dunga” had 29 Bafana Bafana caps. He also played for Orlando Pirates from 1995, as well as Dynamos and SuperSport United.
“On behalf of the Gauteng sports community we want to send our deepest condolences to the Moeti family, Orlando Pirates football club, the Gauteng province, and South Africa at large. Moeti served and encouraged many young soccer players to serve the nation with pride, dedication and commitment. He will be missed by many, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” Hon. Ndlovu said.
