The 2025 Betway Charity Cup: Celebrating Three Years of Purpose Through Football

The third edition of the Betway Charity Cup took place today at Huddle Park Club, continuing Betway’s commitment to making a meaningful difference through sport. Hosted under the Betway Cares initiative, the Charity cup forms part of the brand’s broader efforts to support community development through impactful sporting platforms.

The 2025 edition featured 16 teams, made up of Betway customers, legends of the game, media personalities, and Betway staff members. This year, each Betway ambassador also fielded their own team, adding to the excitement and competitiveness of the tournament. Among the returning favourites were Major Bones FCWest Ham & Cheez FC, and Sky Blues, while new sides brought fresh energy to the day.

The tournament delivered thrilling moments throughout the day, with group stage and knockout rounds keeping fans entertained both on and off the pitch.

Major Bones FC dominated the group stages with a strong, consistent showing and went on to finish the tournament undefeatedWest Ham & Cheez FC advanced as group runners-up and held their own through the knockout stages. In the semi-finals, Major Bones FC outplayed Five Star Kekana, while West Ham & Cheese FC eliminated underdogs Sky Blues, ending their impressive run.

The final saw Major Bones FC and West Ham & Cheese FC clash in a tightly contested showdown. After a series of end-to-end plays and a tense final few minutes, Major Bones FC sealed the victory with a dramatic last-second goal, winning 3–2 and claiming the 2025 Betway Charity Cup title.

As part of the day’s purpose, the winning team received R60,000 to donate to their chosen cause, while the runners-up received R30,000 to donate to theirs

Lehlohonolo Majoro, captain of Major Bones FC, shared his thoughts on the victory:

“It was tough out there, but the team gave it everything. Winning it at the end like that made it even more special. But most importantly, we’re proud that this win means something off the pitch too.”

Lebohang Mokoena, captain of West Ham & Cheese FC, reflected on the journey to the final:

“From the first game, we gave it everything. Making it to the final was special but knowing we’re playing for something bigger than ourselves made it even more meaningful. It’s really about the difference we can make in our communities that’s what this initiative is all about

Donation handovers to the respective charities will take place in the weeks following the tournament.

About the Betway Charity Cup

Launched in 2022, the Betway Charity Cup is a five-a-side football tournament hosted annually by Betway South Africa. The event brings together teams made up of football legends, Betway customers, and staff, all competing to raise funds for charitable causes across the country.
