In the true spirit of Mandela Day, Sony Music Africa partnered with the Break-Through Centre in Katlehong to remind young people that hope begins with community. Through the collective generosity of its employees, Sony Music Africa made a meaningful donation to the centre, with Kwesta matching the employee contribution through a personal donation in support of the initiative.
Located in the heart of Katlehong, the Break-Through Centre has long served as a safe haven for children and young people, providing educational support, mentorship and opportunities that empower the next generation. For Kwesta, the visit was more than a Mandela Day commitment—it was a homecoming.
Raised in Katlehong, the award-winning rapper said the initiative was deeply personal.
“It’s a little personal for me because my parents raised me in this community, and initiatives like Break-Through Centre give hope to this very community.” – Kwesta
The day was about more than a financial contribution. Sony Music Africa employees spent time engaging with the children, sharing moments of encouragement, laughter and connection. Music became a powerful vehicle for inspiration as Sony Music artists Mlindo The Vocalist, Dynamic Duo and Tumi Musiq joined the celebration, giving back the gift of their music, their stories and, most importantly, their presence.
Their performances and interactions created unforgettable moments for the children, reinforcing the power of music to uplift, unite and inspire. The artists encouraged the young people to dream beyond their circumstances and believe in the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.

“Mandela Day reminds us that meaningful change starts with ordinary people choosing to make an extraordinary difference,” said Chenayi Mukaro, People Experience Manager at Sony Music Africa. “Seeing our employees come together alongside Kwesta and our artists is a powerful reflection of what can be achieved when we unite behind a shared purpose. We are proud to use the power of music, our people and our platform to make a meaningful difference in the communities that continue to shape South African culture.”
The initiative also highlights Sony Music Africa’s ongoing commitment to investing in the communities that have nurtured some of the country’s greatest musical talent. By partnering with organisations such as the Break-Through Centre, the company continues to champion opportunities that extend beyond music, creating moments of hope, connection and lasting impact.
As South Africans honoured Nelson Mandela’s legacy through acts of service, the day at the Break-Through Centre stood as a powerful reminder that every contribution—whether through generosity, time or talent—has the power to uplift lives and strengthen communities.
Kind Regards,
