Sassa card migration deadline is here, Lesaka branches urge grant beneficiaries to seek help before 31 August

With less than a week remaining before the 31 August deadline for eligible social grant beneficiaries to migrate from SASSA Gold Cards, thousands of South Africans are still navigating uncertainty around grant access, payment options, e-Verification requirements and qualifying criteria.

Customers have a choice of how and where their grant gets paid

As beneficiaries make final decisions about how they want to receive their grants, Lesaka EasyPay (formerly EasyPay Everywhere) is reminding grant recipients that they have a choice in how and where their money is paid and further encouraging them to visit their nearest Lesaka Branch for free, in-person assistance with a range of grant-related services.

Across more than 240 Lesaka Branches nationwide, trained consultants are helping customers apply for new social grants; complete SASSA e-Verifications where required; understand the SASSA Means Test and whether they may qualify for assistance and switch their grant payments to a Lesaka EasyPay account to ensure uninterrupted access to grants

“As the deadline approaches, many people still have questions about card migration, qualifying criteria and grant applications,” says Simphiwe Phakathi, Executive Head at Lesaka’s Consumer Division.

“We want grant beneficiaries to know that help is available at their nearest Lesaka Branch. Many people assume they won’t qualify for grant assistance because they earn some form of income, but each grant category has its own Means Test thresholds. We encourage anyone who is unsure to speak to one of our consultants before making that assumption.”

Many people incorrectly believe that informal earnings, part-time work or small sources of income automatically disqualify them from receiving government support, which isn’t always the case.

Lesaka EasyPay consultants can help grant applicants understand the qualifying requirements for different grant categories and determine whether they may be eligible to apply.

Lesaka branches are here to assist, Where You Are

With branches located in and communities across South Africa, the Lesaka branch network is designed to bring financial and grant-support services closer to where customers live.

“Whether you need help understanding the card switch deadline, applying for a grant, completing an e-Verification or understanding the Means Test, our consultants are available to assist at no cost,” says Phakathi.
