‘The Only Way’ is part of Desire Marea’s new EP, ‘The Baddies of Isandlwana’. According to Desire, this EP is inspired by his time living in Amandawe, KZN. It’s a mix of sounds that dominate South African nightlife like Gqom, Amapiano, and Afrobeat. The EP represents a period when Desire was trying to find his place in the world, including his quest to discover his identity in history.
This release comes after Desire’s rare tour in the UK and Europe, marking his first appearance since the Grace Jones’ Meltdown festival in London. The tour started in Leeds on 12th October and will continue through October and November, covering various cities in the UK and Europe.
Desire Marea’s unique voice represents a chorus of South African spirits and entities. His music blends electronic genres, post-gospel, spiritual jazz, and ancient Nguni and Ndau sounds. Desire’s solo career took off after his successful stint with the Joburg collective FAKA, a partnership with creative mind Fela Gucci. Together, they achieved global recognition, touring the world and partnering with renowned brands like Versace.
