Mabuza, known as “The Cat” in political circles for his President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy at the State Funeral of former Deputy President David Mabuza, who died on July 3.
The funeral is taking place at Hoërskool Bergvlam in Mbombela, Mpumalanga on Saturday.
The Presidency confirmed that President Ramaphosa has declared a State Funeral Category 2 for Mabuza, recognising his long-standing contribution to South Africa’s democratic government and development.perceived ability to survive political storms, served as South Africa’s Deputy President from 2018 to 2023. Prior to that, he was the Premier of Mpumalanga from 2009 to 2018 and held several senior positions within the provincial government.
He was also part of South Africa’s Special Envoy to South Sudan, where he facilitated critical peace processes and unity agreements.
In addition to his political leadership, Mabuza played a prominent role in the country’s health response. As Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council, he led efforts to mobilise the private sector in combating HIV and TB, two of the country’s most pressing health challenges.
“David Mabuza was a leader who committed his life to serving the people of South Africa,” said the Presidency in a statement.
“From the most remote rural communities to the highest levels of government, he made it his mission to uplift and unite.
