PRESENTATION OF CEREMONIAL COLOUR PARADE TO THE SA AIR FORCE

This momentous ceremony took place at the Air Force Mobile Deployment Wing on 4 October in
Valhalla Pretoria. What a glorious day indeed for the South African Airforce parading their new flag
on the airbase. Taking a moment to reflect on the past and embracing the future.
The Chief of the South African Air Force, Lieutenant General Wiseman Mbambo delivered his
speech with grace and confidence, explaining the significance of the ceremony. So what is a colour
parade, you ask? In the military, the colours originally are flown as a rallying point for troops and a
way to locate the Commander. The heart and soul of a regiment are displayed through their colours.
Soldiers on all ranks took centre stage, marching orderly whilst parading the new flag together with
a 20 piece band. The band played songs old and new, boasting in their remarkable talent.
Everything was on point; a well organized event, strategically planned and executed to perfection.
Discipline and dignity was the order of the day and honour was the main focus.
‘’The Air Force Colours are more than mere symbols; they are the very essence of our service. They
capture the heart and soul of our history, our achievements, and our relentless dedication to
safeguarding the skies of South Africa.
As we present and troop these Colours today, we renew our pledge to uphold our legacy with pride
and integrity’’ said the Chief.
Preparation for the ceremonial colour parade took one week. Excellence and sophistication was
exemplary. In closing the Chief mentioned ‘’ In light of celebrating our traditions and heritage, let
us also continue to embody the Air Forces Vision: Projecting effective Air and Space power through
innovation in the theatre of our operations. With freedom in hearts while we celebrate 30 years of
democracy as South Africans, we can continue to “FREE THE EAGLE” of exploring the airspace,
innovations and progress’’
