POLOKWANE TO TOP 8 FINISH WITH GALAXY WIN

Polokwane City edged out TS Galaxy 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon in what was their last DStv Premiership match of the season.

Therefore, Rise and Shine secured a top-eight finish as they finished eighth which saw the Limpopo side qualify for next season’s MTN8. Galaxy, on the other hand, concluded their campaign in the sixth spot.

Rise and Shine got off to a bright start with Oswin Appollis looking lively for the home side. The Bafana Bafana international broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when beat goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari to hand Polokwane a 1-0 lead.

The hosts then pushed for another goal which saw Sibusiso Tshabalala force Ntwari to make a decent save in the 33rd minute. The score was 1-0 to Polokwane during the halftime break in the capital city of Limpopo, Polokwane courtesy of Appollis’ goal.

Appollis continued to keep the Galaxy defence busy after the restart as he looked to grab his second goal of the match. The former SuperSport United academy player was denied by Rwanda’s finest keeper Ntwari in the 71st minute.

The Rockets pushed for a late equalising goal and Lindokuhle Mbatha had a chance to shoot at goal in the 82nd minute, but he missed the target. Ultimately, the encounter ended in a 1-0 victory in favour of Polokwane on the day.
