MEC Matome Chiloane mourns the passing of former Spar Proteas player Martha Machoga

MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Matome Chiloane has learnt with great sadness of the passing of Martha “Manzo” Machoga, a former Spar Protea player.

The Soweto-born Machoga is considered one of the greats to grace the netball court. During her tenure in the national team, she represented South Africa in three Netball World Cups, three Commonwealth Games, four Cosana Games and two All-Africa Games. She surpasses many players by being one of the most capped players with over 151 caps.

“It is sad to lose such a talented and skilled player who still had a lot to offer especially in the disadvantaged communities. Her immense contribution to the development of Netball will forever be respected and appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Machoga family, Netball SA and the sport fraternity during this trying period.,” said MEC Chiloane.
