Former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth is making headlines after he finally divorced his wife, Sonia. The two were finally granted divorce by the Johannesburg High Court earlier this month.
Booth’s wife exposed Matthew and Bongani’s scandalous affair. One incident that made it on the internet revealed that at some point, Matthew Booth baked Bongani a cheesecake in the middle of the night at his marital home with Sonia.
At the centre of the saga was a cheesecake. Matthew reportedly made a cheesecake, which Sonia thought was for their son’s birthday the next day. However, the next morning, Booth took the cake to Bongani.
However, against the allegations, Matthew Booth and Bongani downplayed the rumours. A year after downplaying the rumours, Matthew and Bongani went official. The two hogged headlines when they shared their priceless moments. In one of their viral photos, the two looked cosy and loved up.
After confirming their fallout, Sonia made it known she has suffered a lot from Matthew Booth’s infidelity, which dates to 2012. Speaking to the media, she made it known that the former Mamelodi Sundowns star was involved in a string of extramarital relationships while at Ajax Cape Town.
Sonia said, “Saying I was horrified is a lie because I dealt with many women, especially around 2012 when he was living at our Cape Town property playing for Ajax Cape Town.” Surprisingly, both Matthew Booth and Bongani are now divorced.
Booth and Sonia had a 50% split of their joint estate. However, The South African can confirm that there will be no spousal maintenance since Matthew claimed poverty.
On the other hand, Bongani filed for divorce from her husband, Professor Klaus Möller, last year. However, Sonia has since confirmed the news of their divorce finalisation to the media.
Speaking to ZiMoja, Matthew Booth’s ex-wife said, “I get to live another life in this lifetime.” She said she was not when asked if she was in a relationship.
She revealed that she wants to work on herself before entering another relationship. Sonia said, ‘I’m going to take my time; I have a hectic schedule pushing my Cheesecake brand.”
