Marumo Gallants could change name to Bloemfontein Celtic

On Thursday night the Bloemfontein Celtic Supporters Club met at Paradise Hall in Bochabela to discuss the relocation of a PSL club to the City of Roses. It was agreed that Marumo Gallants will still relocate to Bloemfontein and this will still be in the current season.

Earlier in the week it was confirmed that the National First Division team, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila F.C., has been relocated to Bloemfontein and their first home match is on Saturday against Casric Stars. According to the grapevine Tshakhuma FC would be rebranded as Bloemfontein Celtic in the off-season and the PSL status of a current team would be bought in order for them to play in the top-flight of domestic football in South Africa.

Following Thursday night’s meeting it is just about a done deal that Marumo Gallants, who currently play their home games at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg will be calling Bloemfontein their new home and their first home game in the city will be on the 4th of March when they face TS Galaxy.

In late 2022 it was said that Gallants would relocate to Bloemfontein following a supporters meeting, however, news was quickly downplayed by the teams chairman, Abram Sello.

The move will also lead to the current PSL champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, making a trip to Bloemfontein in the coming week as they have been drawn to face Gallants away in the Nedbank Cup round of 16.

Furthermore, while Gallants are struggling in the PSL at this point they are busy with CAF Confederations Cup, where they beat Al-Akhdar of Libya 4-1 on the weekend. They have scheduled home match against USM Alger of Algeria on Wednesday the 8th of March.

In addition it has been agreed that Marumo Gallants will change their name to Marumo Celtic and the team will be rebranded to fall in line with the traditional colours of green-and-white which for decades has been associated with Bloemfontein Celtic.
