Makhelwane Hits 100 Million Streams Before Release: Wanitwa Mos and Nkosazana Daughter Make History

Renowned hitmakers Wanitwa Mos and Nkosazana Daughter are thrilled to announce the release of their highly anticipated joint project, Makhelwane. This soulful album beautifully blends Wanitwa Mos’ signature Limpopo bolo house sound with the essence of amapiano, showcasing their synergy as the creators of the chart-topping hits “Dali Nguwe” and “Sofa Silahlane.”

Wanitwa Mos emerged as the alter ego of Master KG, allowing him the creative freedom to experiment with different beats and genres that he wouldn’t typically explore as Master KG. He sees Wanitwa Mos as a chance to embrace new possibilities and continuously push the boundaries of his musical journey, keeping his sound fresh and evolving within the industry.

The album Makhelwane, which translates to ‘Neighbor,’ was inspired by the creative journey of the two artists, who come from different backgrounds—Pedi and Zulu. Their collaboration symbolized the spirit of unity, as they embraced the opportunity to work together. By collaborating with several artists from across the country, the studio sessions fostered a kindred, neighborly atmosphere, where everyone celebrated the unique diversity that shaped this album.

Makhelwane is already a major success, having achieved over 30 million certified streams in South Africa—going Gold even before its official release. As of now, the album has garnered a staggering 104 million streams globally across all platforms. Tracks like “Keneilwe” (69 million streams) and “Makhelwane” (30 million streams) have fueled immense anticipation for this project, with additional tracks like “Moyo Ongcwele” (2.5 million streams) and the official single “Mfazi we Phepha” (2.8 million streams) continuing to grow in popularity.

The album boasts a star-studded lineup of collaborations with some of the industry’s finest, including Mthunzi, Big Zulu, Zee Nxumalo, JL SA, Nobuhle, Mashudu, HarryCane, and Casswell P. The  single, “Mfazi we Phepha,” features both Wanitwa Mos and Nkosazana Daughter alongside Big Zulu and Zee Nxumalo. This highly anticipated track is set to make waves as the album’s official single, offering a rich and dynamic musical experience.

Ahead of its release, an exclusive album listening session was held on the night of Thursday, 29 August, at Hatfield VW Bryanston. The event, attended by an impressive guest list of celebrities and media representatives, offered a sneak peek into Makhelwane, with premier music videos for two of its singles also being showcased. The audience was captivated throughout the listening session, giving Master KG and Nkosazana Daughter a standing ovation at the end, celebrating the magic of the project.

This event also marked a significant milestone, Wanitwa Mos 10-year commemoration in the music industry, a momentous occasion celebrated with the presentation of Gold plaques to both Master KG and Nkosazana Daughter in recognition of their achievements on the album.

Adam Tiran, Director of operations and Wanitwa Mos account manager, delivered the plaques with high praise, stating, “This achievement is a testament to the relentless passion and dedication both Master KG and Nkosazana Daughter have for their craft. Their music not only resonates across South Africa but has truly captured hearts worldwide. We’re incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with them.”

Wanitwa Mos Shared his heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support, saying, ‘Reaching 10 years in the industry and seeing Makhelwane hit over 100 million streams is truly surreal. When we dropped Dali Nguwe back in 2021, people kept asking us to create more, and I’m so happy we’ve not only done that but also reached over 36 million views on YouTube. We’ve poured so much love and energy into this music, and to finally release our first album together feels incredible. We’ve made sure every song hits home, and trust me, this is just the start

Nkosazana Daughter emphasized the importance of relying on family during turbulent times, expressing that women in the industry need to be supported and embraced. She advocates for an environment where women aren’t pitted against one another or subjected to false narratives, but rather are encouraged to come together and collaborate as creatives.

Damon Tymvios, Dealer Principal of Hatfield VW Bryanston, was among the notable figures celebrating this achievement. ‘Music is deeply entrenched in South African culture, just like the VW brand. This collaboration with Wanitwa Mos and Nkosazana Daughter perfectly aligns with our shared vision of innovation. We’re excited to showcase new products, including the Vivo and T-Roc, which are launching this month. Our dealership, which has been operating for over 20 years, is proud to partner with such talented artists
