Katlehong’s Amapiano Stalwart, Mordecai, Set to Release 16-Track Album MAMELLO

Amapiano artist and DJ, Mordecai (born Kabelo Mokoena), is set to release his 16-track album, MAMELLO, on 17 April 2026 across all major streaming platforms, led by the single Marato Fela — track 9 on the album.

Raised in Katlehong, on the east side of Johannesburg, Mordecai introduces Marato Fela, which translates to “love only” — a fitting expression of the emotion and intention behind the record. The single captures the essence of his signature sound: laid-back rhythms, rich melodic layering, and a groove that feels effortless without ever being lazy, while centering love as both a message and a musical feeling.

“Growing up, I was surrounded by music all the time — different sounds and influences coming from home and the people around me,” says Mordecai. “That really shaped how I hear music today and how I approached this album. Mamello is me bringing all of that together.”

Since his 2024 debut album, Product of My Craft, Mordecai has moved with quiet consistency — releasing Whispers of Love the same year, followed by Blondeca and its deluxe edition in 2025. Across this run, he has accumulated three platinum-certified records — Ngeke n’Believe’ePhesheya, and Di Kgomo — building a catalogue that speaks louder than any introduction.

With Mamello, Mordecai pushes further than ever before. The 16-track album marks a deliberate step into new sonic territory — broader in scope and bolder in execution — while staying rooted in the sound his audience knows and trusts. Standout collaborations include Yumbs on Phakamani, alongside JayJayy, Thatohatsi, Blue Pappi, Rory Diamondz, and Sandy6eats — a carefully curated lineup that reflects both Mordecai’s artistic growth and his instinct for bringing together the right voices to elevate each record.Kabelo Mokoena, known professionally as Mordecai, is an Amapiano artist and DJ from Katlehong, Johannesburg. Across four bodies of work and three platinum-certified records, he has built a reputation for music that carries both emotional weight and dancefloor credibility — earning him a loyal following at home and growing recognition beyond South Africa’s borders.
