Kaizer Chiefs played draw

The Soweto giants were held to a 1-1 draw by the impressive Rockets, owing to some tomfoolery by Nabi’s players during the match at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

With six games to play, Chiefs are positioned eighth on the log table with just a meagre 30 points from a possible 72 points.

Nabi’s men are seven points behind third-placed Sekhukhune United, who have played one match less than Chiefs.

While this is not a massive gap, the Glamour Boys’ poor and soulless display on the pitch will make it hard for them to achieve the top-three finish goal.

“About finishing in the top three, I think we need to take it game by game. It’s true that we have to be honest, it will be difficult because we are losing points,” Nabi told media after the game.

“Probably we shouldn’t have lost these points. But we are going to take it game by game and see how and where we finish.”

Failure to finish in the top three throws out the window their opportunity to compete in the Caf Confederation Cup next season.

Their hope to qualify for the tournament is the Nedbank Cup where they are due to face Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Reaching the final of the domestic tournament might be enough to seal the qualification if Orlando Pirates also reach the climax and finish in the top two of the Premiership.
