Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Social Development, Agriculture and Environment, Mbali Hlophe will on Sunday, 14 May 2023 launch the Cleaning and Greening Expanded Public Works Programme.

The intervention by the provincial government is in response to littering and illegal dumping across Gauteng, particularly in Townships, Informal settlements, and Hostels (TISH) which is harmful to the environment. The programme is also aimed at addressing food insecurity challenges at household level and rising unemployment in the province.

Through this programme, 6000 temporary work opportunities have been created for unemployed community members to embark on cleaning and greening activities.

The provincial government will continue to provide environmental management support to TISH communities through the Bontle ke Botho (BKB) sustainable clean-ups and greening initiatives to enhance human dignity as well as instilling pride in communities.

The media is invited to the launch which is scheduled as follows: Date: Sunday, 14 May 2023
