Ahead of this weekend’s Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, German trumpeter and pianist Sebastian Studnitzky will take the stage at Jozi Gold Brewing Company for a special live performance in Braamfontein.
Organised in partnership with the festival, the concert is part of the Jazz at Jozi Gold series at 81 De Korte Street – a location well known to local jazz fans as the former site of The Orbit. The venue continues to host intimate live sessions that bring audiences up close to world-class musicians.
At the center of the performance is Studnitzky’s latest project, EUPHORIA. Known as the founder of Berlin’s XJAZZ festival and a frequent collaborator across multiple music scenes, Studnitzky blends jazz, neoclassical textures, minimalist grooves, and filmic soundscapes.
Alternating between piano and trumpet, he is joined by an international ensemble featuring Claudio Puntin on woodwinds, Tim Sarhan on drums, Paul Kleber on bass, and Bodek Janke on tabla and percussion.
A recipient of both the ECHO Jazz and OPUS Klassik awards, Studnitzky has built a career around blurring the lines between structured composition and open-ended improvisation.
For Jozi Gold Brewing Company, hosting Studnitzky marks another step in reviving regular live jazz at one of Johannesburg’s iconic culture spots, offering festival-goers and music lovers an up-close concert experience
