Gauteng to commemorate Human Rights Day 2023

The Gauteng Provincial Government will, on Tuesday, 21 March 2023, host the Human Rights Day commemoration in Sharpeville, Sedibeng. 

After 3 years of lowkey indoor activities due to Covid 19 restrictions, the provincial government is hosting the first national day of the year with a public mass event targeting at least 5000 people.

The 4-phased programme will start with wreath laying ceremonies for all the 69 victims of the Sharpeville massacre, and ending with a cultural entertainment programme, featuring several local and national artists.

All Gauteng government departments and entities like IEC, Tshepo 1-Miliion and others will be at hand to offer their service. Health Department will provide health services for various medical tests; Human Settlement will be there for housing related issues whilst Social Development, Community Safety, Agriculture and others will be there for their services including Drug Rehabilitation programme, Crime prevention and Food security respectively.

Also on offer will be the Kiddies corner and the Arts and Craft Market where various artists will exhibit and sell their artifacts.  

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi will deliver the message of the day, reflecting on our nation as a solid constitutional democracy, and towards building a socially cohesive and thriving Gauteng City Region.
