The fifth body which was found in the Hennops River in Centurion, north of Johannesburg on Tuesday.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the body of a woman was found down the river.
“Our police divers have found it and they are busy retrieving it. They have now made the discovery with our air wing unit. We can confirm that they are now heading back and we understand our police diving unit is busy retrieving this particular body,” she said.
She added that the family has not arrived at the mortuary as of yet to identify the bodies.
“Last time I checked, they were busy with the National Commissioner, they will be heading up to the mortuary. I’m sure he will update them with the latest developments, but shockingly, and what is of concern, the vehicle that they were using has not been found of yet,” she said.
Earlier in the day, police confirmed the recovery of three bodies from the Hennops River in Centurion amid an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of three police constables.
The trio — Constable Cebekhulu Linda (24), Constable Keamogetswe Buys (30), and Constable Boipelo Senoge (20) — went missing last Wednesday while travelling from Bloemfontein to their deployment area in Limpopo.
Mathe said members of the SAPS search and rescue team made the grim discovery during an operation on Tuesday.
The constables’ last known location was at the Engen petrol station near the Grasmere toll plaza on the N1, south of Johannesburg.
On Monday, police recovered the bodies of a man and a woman from the river. The third body was found during continued search operations on Tuesday.
Last week, police announced a reward of R350 000 for information regarding the whereabouts of the missing officers.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the recovered bodies are those of the missing constables.
