Eva Modika stuns at Cannes Film Festival, expanding her global footprint

South African DJ, media personality and reality TV star Eva Modika has added an international milestone to her growing career by attending the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where she walked the iconic red carpet and connected with leading figures in the global film industry.

Dressed by Vittoria Boutique in Mandela Square, she wanted to take a piece of her country and place it on the French red carpet. The inspiration behind her royal blue dress on the opening night was timeless elegance with a modern edge, something cinematic, effortless, and fitting for Cannes.

“I’m here to celebrate the magic of cinema, to connect with inspiring creatives from around the world, and to truly immerse myself in the energy that only Cannes can offer. It’s a rare and beautiful space where storytelling is honoured at the highest level. With so many major premieres this year including Fast & FuriousI’m just as excited to stumble upon unexpected gems and champion bold new voices. I had the chance to watch the Korean film GUN-CHE, directed by Yeon Sang-ho, on 15 May, and it was an unforgettable experience,” Eva says.

Fresh from releasing her vibrant new single “Sebenza” with Mawhoo, Peekay Nzee, David Moh, and Roots Afriq on 24 April, Eva had little time to pause before jetting off to the French Riviera. The Afro-house infused track, already making waves on streaming platforms and dance floors, marks another bold step in her musical evolution, and Cannes provided the perfect global backdrop to amplify that momentum.

Her time in Cannes has also included celebrating fellow South African talent on the international stage.

“Black Coffee will be performing at an after-party on the 19th of May and Themba on the 18th of May, which I will be attending. I’m so proud to see South African DJs doing the most on this part of the world,” she shared.

Founded in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival is widely regarded as one of the most influential and glamorous film festivals in the world. Each year, it brings together acclaimed directors, actors, producers and creatives to premiere groundbreaking films and compete for the coveted Palme d’Or. The festival remains a melting pot of film, fashion, music and art, creating space for cross-industry conversations and partnerships.

For Eva Modika, attending the festival was more than a fashion moment — it was a strategic step in positioning herself within a broader global creative network.

“Being at Cannes is about more than just walking the red carpet. It’s about representation and growth. Coming from South Africa and standing among some of the world’s most influential creatives shows that our industry is evolving and our talent is global. Releasing ‘Sebenza’ and then heading straight to Cannes felt like everything aligning at the right time.”

While in Cannes, Eva is immersing herself in high-level networking events, industry gatherings and exclusive celebrations, engaging with filmmakers, international media personalities and entertainment executives. Her presence signals a growing intersection between African music and global film spaces, highlighting how South African creatives continue to break boundaries beyond traditional platforms.

When she returns home, she will carry with her not only new industry connections but also renewed inspiration, ready to build on the momentum and further cement her status as a dynamic force in entertainment both locally and internationa
