The Dona’s Mates Youth Development Project recently hosted a high-impact workshop for youth coaches and leaders in Orange Farm, highlighting the importance of empowering the next generation through sports development. The initiative, in partnership with National Youth Service (NYS) and supported by South African football legends, aimed to equip young coaches with critical life skills and coaching expertise.
The workshop featured a lineup of experienced coaches and football legends, including midfield general Tebogo “Mashwabana”Moloi, Former Orlando Pirates Football Club Goalkeeper the Legendary Patson “Sparks’ Banda, Paradise Moeketsi, and Mike Ntombela Sundowns Legendary, who shared their wisdom and firsthand experiences with participants. The sessions covered topics such as life skills, coaching techniques, and sports development, with a focus on practical application.
*A Holistic Approach to Sports Development*
In addition to coaching techniques, the workshop also covered topics such as nutrition, emotional regulation, and stress management. Coach Thato Dladla from KOSA led a session on the importance of proper nutrition for athletes, highlighting how a balanced diet can impact performance. The workshop also emphasized the importance of emotional regulation and stress management, with Coach Buti Kolwana leading exercises to help participants relax and manage their emotions.
*Practical Sessions*
The workshop included practical sessions, led by renowned coaches such as Rainer Abraham and Floyd Mogale, where participants learned the fundamentals of football and other sports. The hands-on approach allowed participants to apply the skills and knowledge gained during the workshop.

The Dona’s Mates Youth Development Project was supported by Tshebidisano Funerals, which has provided funding for young people in sports. “Our mission is to reach out to the communities and assist your community,” said Mrs. Pamela Motlhabi, CEO of Tshebidisano Funerals.
