DJ Kwame releases a hit single ‘Thumela Incwadi’.

A journey of DJ “Kwame, who became a DJ to pursue his love for music began when he finished his matric in 2010. He studied a Diploma in Radio Practitioner, as he grew up with a father who collects music, and that is where he received his love for music.

Born Kwame Nkrumah Mahlanga in Ivory Park located in Midrand on the 24th of September 1990, today Kwame is an Afrotech music DJ and Producer, who fuses different musical sounds to create a unique build of quality sounds, fused with smooth vocals, and packed to fit the Afrotech genre enjoyed by all music lovers despite their preferable genre.

The release of his new single hit “Thumela Incwadi” featuring Bonolo Madlongolwane a vocalist and songwriter from Vaal couldn’t have come at a better time. ‘Thumela Incwadi’ was inspired by a desire to honour the bond between parents and their children. “It’s a South African Love story of love, respect and family,” he says. He wanted to create a song that resonates with anyone who has ever wanted to ask for blessing or convey their deepest emotions through music.

Kwame used to flip through radio stations to hear new music, however the house music bug bit him during his early days of high school, when a friend introduced him to DJ Fresh’s Compilations.

Growing up he was influenced by the likes of the legendary late Fana Khaba (Khabzela), DJ Monde and later he was exposed to DJs such as Fizta Mixwell, Tarrence, Glen Lewis, Oskido, Claude and Mbuso. His love for house music grows as he listened to Y-FM and to compilations such as Club Y sessions presented by DJ Fresh.

As his father instilled the love of music through his music collection, Kwame got exposed to various music genres and sounds (reggae, jazz, RnB and House Music). He started collecting his own house music songs and, with his friends started exchanging music with one another. They would engage in music discussions and thinking of ways to enter the musical game.

After graduating Kwame started his first radio job at Hillbrow Community Radio station as a technical radio producer. He later joined Kaya FM as a radio producer and it has been five wonderful years. He produces shows such as, The Uncaptured, KayaBiz, Today with John Perlman, Side Bar with Dr Sindi, My Money and Me, Good Friday and The Winner’s Circle.

In 2015 he released his first set of mixtapes known as “House Davotions”, which got him the exposure as a mix DJ, he has played around South Africa and across the border in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Botswana. Kwame is more than an individual that just plays music, he is an artist that aims to speak to people’s souls through the language of music. He released his first EP in end of January 2020, with the hit single he collaborated with Mthandazo Gatya, known as Abana mali and gaining momentum in the music space. He plans on penetrating both the African and International Market through his Afrotech music.

‘Incwadi encane’ which speaks about writing a letter to a partner’s parent, expressing love and respect, by asking for their blessing to marry their child is a voice of value for love. “Madlongolwane brought warmth and sincerity to the song,” says Kwame. It’s a deeply emotional piece that combines gentle melodies with sincere lyrics, capturing the vulnerability and hope of seeking acceptance and love from the people who matter most. “I chose these collaborators because they understand the importance of emotional authenticity and storytelling in music,” he added.

The song is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. I hope it touches the hearts of everyone who listens
