COMMITTEE EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILIES OF LATE CONNIE CHIUME AND ZANELE MBOKAZI-NKAMBULE

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s (GPL) Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, colleagues, and millions of fans mourning the loss of renowned actress Connie Chiume and esteemed media personality Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, both of whom sadly passed away during Women’s Month.

Connie Temweka Gabisile Chiume (73), an internationally acclaimed actress and filmmaker, showcased her remarkable talent in numerous films and television series, including the award-winning *Black Panther*, *Blessers*, *Yizo Yizo*, *Gomora*, and *Rhythm City*. She passed away on 6 August 2024 following a brief illness.

Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and a beloved personality on Ukhozi FM, passed away on the morning of 12 August 2024 at Parklands Hospital.  Zanele hosted her first Crown Gospel Music Awards in Gauteng in 2023 in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation which was a start of a working relationship with the Gauteng province’.

“We are profoundly saddened by the passing of these two extraordinary women, who still had so much to contribute to the arts sector in Gauteng, South Africa, and indeed, the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and fans during this difficult time,” stated Disebo Tlebere, Chairperson of the SACR Portfolio Committee in the GPL.
