Celebrating the Legacy and Positive Impact of the KFC Mini-Cricket Volunteer Coaches

KFC, in collaboration with Cricket South Africa, recently hosted the KFC Mini-Cricket National Seminar in Hermanus, attended by over 130 coaches. The annual event served as a platform to discuss the positive impact the KFC Mini-Cricket programme is making in South Africa and to also honor and celebrate the legacy of former KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches who have dedicated years of service to the programme. The event recognised the influence that these coaches have had on grassroots cricket development in South Africa.

Daphine Vezi (Central Gauteng League), Jack Mahoney, Hendrik van Uys, Philepine Setlau (Mpumalanga), Patricia Matimbe (Northerns), Christina Songo (Easterns), and Philanande Progress Hebe (Borders) were among the notable retirees. Their combined effect on the KFC Mini-Cricket programme cannot be overestimated. These coaches have dedicated years of their lives to developing talent, instilling a love of the game, and developing key life skills in young cricketers.

The impact of these KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches extends far beyond the cricket field. Their legacy is engraved in every child they have mentored, every skill they have taught, and every smile they have inspired. Through their tireless efforts, they have not only developed cricketers but also helped shape responsible, confident, and well-rounded individuals.

Andra Nel, KFC Marketing Manager: Brand & Purpose, expressed gratitude to the KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches. “As we bid farewell to our KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches, we are reminded of the power of volunteerism and the profound difference one person can make. It truly does take a village to raise a child. Their dedication serves as an inspiration to us, showing how authentic community engagement can build strong, lasting connections.”

“Their selfless service has been the cornerstone of the KFC Mini-Cricket programme, providing a solid foundation for its success and growth. Through their guidance, countless children have not only honed their cricketing skills but also developed important values such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

As we reflect on their contributions, it’s clear that the impact of our KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches is immeasurable. The KFC Mini-Cricket programme owes a debt of gratitude to these individuals for their unwavering commitment and passion for the sport,” Nel concluded.

The KFC Mini-Cricket programme extends its deepest appreciation to these stalwarts, recognising that their dedication has been instrumental in growing the game at the grassroots level and creating a solid foundation for cricket in our country.
