Amajimbos steal the win against Tanzania out in Ivory Coast

The South African U17 Men’s National Team beat Tanzania 4-3 on penalties in the second match of the FIFA U17 Talent Development Scheme (TDS) tournament currently taking place in Côte d’Ivoire.

This after the match ended 1-1 at full time.

Amajimbos struggled to deal with the aggressive style of play by Tanzania and their solid defence. They conceded in the 80th minute of the match, giving the East Africans the lead.

Neo Bohloko managed to find the equalizer for South Africa in the dying minutes of the match, taking the team to the penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper Lehlohonolo Mosia, who earned his first official international cap, made three great saves in the shootout to give South Africa the 4-3 win over Tanzania.

“This was a tough match and the one I was looking forward to the most in this tournament,” said Amajimbos Head Coach Vela Khumalo.

“Tanzania is the test we needed as we will be facing these challenges in the COSAFA Championships later this year.

“We had to see how we respond to physical teams with very solid defenders and we tried a new formation today that still needs work. We don’t see this as a victory because it was a draw in our books. But we are meeting our targets so we are satisfied for today,”  concluded Khumalo.
