A historic achievement for KFC Mini-Cricket graduates.

The recent historic achievement of the Momentum Proteas women’s cricket team is an inspiration to the over 52,000 young girls currently playing KFC Mini-Cricket, and KFC pay tribute to these great achievers and recognises the important influence women have in the KFC Mini-Cricket programme.

Almost 75% (11 of the 15) of the professional players that formed part of the recent Proteas women’s squad developed their passion for the sport during their KFC Mini-Cricket playing days, and there is no doubt about the impact the purpose-led programme has had, and continues to have, on the youth, how it changes lives and contributes to positive change in society through play.

The KFC family joins the country in celebrating the Mini-Cricket alumni, which includes the top run scorer of the tournament, Laura Wolvaardt, as well as Shabnim Ismail and Ayabonga Khaka, who finished within the top 10 wicket takers.

KFC is passionate about feeding the potential of children everywhere and KFC Mini-Cricket has become an incredibly powerful vehicle to impact lives beyond the boundaries and providing a pipeline for the next generation of professional cricketers, future community leaders and avid fans of the game, believes Andra Nel, KFC SA Marketing Manager Brand & Purpose.

“KFC’s involvement in the Mini-Cricket programme continues to be driven by a strong desire to do our part for the next generation of South African leaders. For us, the grassroot programme is rooted in levelling the playing field and providing children of South Africa with an opportunity to be their best selves, no matter their background or gender,” said Nel.

Since KFC partnered with Cricket South Africa fourteen years ago, the programme has provided an opportunity to create experiences that enrich boys’ and girls’ lives from the age of four, until they progress to hard-ball cricket between the ages of 10 and 12.
