The countdown to a major new chapter for AirBurn Sounds begins with “Ubani Lo?”, a vibrant Amapiano dance single bringing together some of the genre’s exciting contemporary voices.
Set for release on Friday 18 September 2026 through AirBurn Sounds’ label Airburn360, “Ubani Lo?” sees AirBurn Sounds X Mellow & Sleazy ft Predope The Vocalist, CPT Switch & A.M.U.X joining forces for a record built for movement, celebration, and the dancefloor.
“Ubani Lo?” is a mellow but vibrant Amapiano dance record built around the mystery of a gorgeous, confident woman who seems completely untouchable. Driven by smooth grooves, infectious percussion, and a warm, energetic bounce, the song captures the curiosity and excitement of being drawn to someone you simply can’to figure out. It’s playful, flirtatious and made for the dancefloor.
But the single represents more than just another collaboration. It arrives at a significant moment in AirBurn Sounds’ creative journey, serving as the first major musical taste of a full project scheduled due for release soon.
After the song officially lands on streaming platforms, AirBurn Sounds will introduce it to audiences in a distinctly Johannesburg way – through the debut of AirBurn Thursdays (Live Mix) on Thursday, 24 September.
The event will take place at Ko-9 in Alexandra, one of Johannesburg’s oldest townships, established in 1912 – a place that carries personal meaning for AirBurn Sounds and forms part of the story behind his musical identity. Although born in Ebony Park, with Limpopo roots, for AirBurn Sounds, the connection to Alexandra is deeply personal. It is one of the places where he spent some years of his life and where the sounds, people and energy of township life helped shape his understanding of music. Together, these places form an important part of the creative landscape behind the forthcoming music – a journey that moves between township culture, contemporary South African sounds and the wider possibilities of Amapiano.
“Ubani Lo?” brings together artists at different points in their respective journeys.
For AirBurn Sounds, working with Mellow & Sleazy is also a continuation of an existing creative relationship. The pair have previously collaborated with AirBurn Sounds on several tracks both released and on his upcoming project including songs like Amahemhem and Shashalaza to name a few, making their return to the studio feel less like a meeting of strangers and more like another chapter in an ongoing musical conversation. Mellow & Sleazy have established themselves as important contributors to the modern Amapiano sound, particularly through their energetic production style and ability to create records that connect with dancefloors.
Their presence on “Ubani Lo?” adds experience, confidence and an unmistakable Amapiano edge.
“There is a natural chemistry whenever we work with AirBurn Sounds. We already understand each other creatively, so the process becomes about pushing the sound forward rather than trying to force a collaboration. ‘Ubani Lo?’ has that energy – it is fun, it moves and it feels like something people can really get behind, says the duo Mellow & Sleazy.
For AirBurn Sounds, the collaboration represents a relationship that continues to evolve.

The single also introduces a generational element through CPT Switch, a young artist steadily making his presence felt and one of the emerging names to watch.
CPT Switch represents the next wave – an artist stepping into a collaboration with more established names while bringing his own youthful energy to the record.

Predope The Vocalist brings the melodic dimension required to elevate an Amapiano dance record, while A.M.U.X adds another layer to the collaborative soundscape.

“‘Ubani Lo?’ gave us the freedom to have fun. It is a song that does not ask you to overthink it. You hear it and you want to move. At the same time, there is a lot of character in the different voices coming together, which is what makes the record exciting,” says Predope The Vocalist.
A.M.U.X adds:
“The beauty of this record is that everyone brings their own identity, but nobody is fighting for the same space. That is what makes a collaboration work. You can hear the different personalities, but the song still feels like one complete experience.”
At its heart, “Ubani Lo?” is an Amapiano dance record – infectious, energetic and built to create a moment. The title itself, which translates to “Who is this?” in isiZulu, carries a playful quality that fits the spirit of the track. On Thursday, 24 September, AirBurn Sounds will host the debut edition of AirBurn Thursdays (Live Mix) at Ko-9 in Alexandra.
The event will serve as the live introduction to the record before “Ubani Lo?” officially drops the following day.
For AirBurn Sounds, bringing the experience to Alexandra is intentional. Alexandra is not simply a venue location. It forms part of his personal history and creative development. Established in 1912, Alexandra has played a significant role in Johannesburg’s social and cultural history and remains one of the city’s most recognizable townships. It is also a place that AirBurn Sounds knows personally.
“Alexandra means something to me. I spent some time there, and those experiences became part of who I am. A lot of what influences my music comes from places I have lived in, people I have met and the energy I experienced growing up. So to introduce this new chapter there feels right.”
His musical identity is equally shaped by Ebony township, where he was raised, and Limpopo, the province to which he remains rooted. Those different environments have helped shape a sound that is comfortable moving between traditional influences, township culture, electronic production, and the constantly evolving world of Amapiano.
“Ubani Lo?” arrives just two months before the release of AirBurn Sounds’ full project, making the single an important first glimpse into what is coming. Rather than treating the single as an isolated release, AirBurn Sounds is positioning it as the opening chapter of a wider rollout. The upcoming project will further explore his musical identity, creative relationships and the influences that have shaped his journey.
“The upcoming project is very personal to me. I have taken a lot from the places I have been, the people I have worked with and the different stages of my career,” Airburn Sounds says.
