SUNDOWNS WILL GO DEFEND THIER LEAD

Mamelodi Sundowns to defending their 1 nil in Rabat the first leg of the CAF Champions League final in style when they won 1-0 against Moroccan side, AS FAR on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Stadium. It was Aubrey Modiba’s only goal of the match that ensured the Brazilians head to the second leg with an upper hand.

The first opportunity came from the hosts when Tashreeq Matthews ran with the ball to the left flank. Attempting to shoot, his effort was cleared away by a slide tackle.

The visitors almost broke the deadlock with a shot fired from the left flank aiming for the nearpost but Ronwen Williams tipped it away to deny them.

A goal almost manifested on the 29th minute when Brayan Leon set up Nuno  Santos. Santos was, however, not quick enough to connect with the ball, seeing the goalkeeper bucketing the attempt.

On the 35th minute, after Matthews was fouled just outside the box, Masandawana were awarded a free-kick. Taken by Aubrey Modiba, he fired the shot to the far-post to break the deadlock for the hosts.

The visitors kicked off the second stanza with an opportunity from a set piece. A right flank shot attempting to find the near-post was tapped away by Williams to deny them a leveller.

After a good build-up play on the edge of the box, Modiba delivered a beautiful pass to Leon but the shot slightly went over the bar.

Leon, again, almost came close to teeing one up after the hour mark as he was left unmarked. His effort, however, slightly went wide missing the target.
