Sundowns needed a penalty goal, scored by Lucas Ribeiro late in the first half to salvage a point against the Arrows side led by former Masandawana coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Abafana Bes’thende opened the scoring at Mpumalanga Stadium in Durban through Keenan Phillips on 31 minutes.
This was the first time Sundowns dropped points in the form of a draw this season. The other time they dropped points were in defeats against Polokwane City and TS Galaxy.
Cardoso struggled to hide his frustrations after the game, claiming his team did enough to return home with maximum points.
“I should congratulate my players because they didn’t make a very good first half, but they made a very good second half,” Cardoso told media after the game.
“I think that today, it was more than fair that we take the three points. We scored more than enough goals to win the match as it was clear to everybody.”
