The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, in partnership with the National Archives and Records Services of South Africa will commemorate Archives Week from 6-10 May 2024, under the theme: “30 Years of Democracy and State of Record Keeping in State Institutions: Archives of the Future.”

The week-long programme will be taken throughout the province to educate communities on archival services and the management of records.

National Archives Awareness Week activities will begin with the official launch event that will incorporate flag hoisting on 6 May, followed by a series of community engagement sessions in various regions/corridors within Gauteng until the May 9th. It will conclude on May 10th with a Seminar on Rare Collection Archives.

The Archives Week programme will promote the work done by the National Archives and Records Service of South Africa and all the Gauteng Provincial Repositories, as well as serve as a platform for records managers from government institutions, municipalities and private sector archives to share knowledge about proper records keeping practices and related legislation.
