THE TWO GAINTS ARE LOOKING FOR MAYO

Khanyisa Mayo, last season’s joint-top scorer in the PSL and currently the leading marksman in 2023-24, is a wanted man. According to KickOff, foreign clubs might chase Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns off their pursuit of the 25-year-old attacker.

“I know very well that clubs from abroad have shown interest in Mayo. There is one team from Sweden and another two from the English Championship who wanted to invite him for an assessment. That could have been a good step in his football career, and Scandinavian countries like Sweden would have been a good start. But there’s still plenty of time for him to go, he is still got time, he is young,” said the source.

Sports Night Amplified host Andile Ncube, as per SABC Sport, asked owner John Comitis about Khanyisa Mayo, as he constantly gets linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns.

“I made a statement that if Mayo scores 15 goals this season, then USD2-million [R37-million] is his price tag. I don’t think I am wrong. Even that number now with what’s happening with the African Football League [AFL], they are throwing money around like it’s nothing – let it come my way. At this stage we are happy with Mayo, he still has a long-term contract with us.”

Mayo has recently signed a new deal so City hold all the cards and will likely sell to the highest bidder. That’s not likely to be good news for Chiefs.
