In 2019, I founded an internal digital venture at Standard Bank aptly named thrive__. A B2B2C digital
platform and end-to-end solution that connects independent informal traders with the leading branded consumer goods, including Coca-Cola, Unilever, British American Tobacco, Distell, and more. Starting in South Africa, our next stop on the journey is Nigeria. As Founder and Head of Product, my role includes the setup and structure of the venture team, driving the discovery, commercialisation, prioritisation, build and growth of the trader and brand customer stories.
Prior to becoming the CEO and Founder at thrive_, I was responsible for the portfolio of Standard Bank retail clients across the continent, including H&M, Inditex, Carrefour, Yum Group, Walmart, McDonald’s, Shoprite and Woolworths. Beyond general financing, including trade finance and working capital lines, my primary responsibility was to enable e-commerce and payment solutions for retailers across 14 key countries.
As a product owner and venture architect, I have been shaped by the customers I served in emerging cities like Lagos, Kampala, Johannesburg and Seoul. These customers extremely risk intolerant and therefore not impressed by product features. What they quickly judge is the outcome of the solution – does a product work consistently in their environment, and does it immediately enable the customer to live differently?
