STANDING COMMITTEE ON SCRUTINY OF SUBORDINATE LEGISLATION ON THE TABLED HEALTH’S UPFS REGULATIONS.

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Standing Committee on Scrutiny of Subordinate Legislation (CSSL) held a meeting, with the Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness to consider the annual Uniform Patient Fees Schedule Tariff increase. This was held on Thursday 8 June 2023 at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. 

The meeting allowed the Committee and the Department to present their social-economic analysis and Legal opinions on the: (I)Revision of the Uniform Patient Fee Schedule Relating to Ambulances 2023, (II) Revision of the Uniform Patient Fee Schedule Relating to Hospital Mortuary 2023 and (III) Revision of the Uniform Patient Fee Schedule Relating to the Classification of and Fees Payable by Patients at Provincial Hospitals 2023. The proposed increase on the tariffs will be 5,1% of the current fees payable and will come into effect on the 1st of July 2023.

The Committee approved the tariff increases. The above will be implemented within the current financial year to ensure improvement of services delivery.

One of the Committee’s main functions includes the scrutiny of draft Regulations to ensure compliance with the Constitution and Law. This being in line with the GPL’s mandate of Law making. 

The Gauteng Health Regulations on Uniform Patient Fees stipulates fees which are payable by patients at provincial hospitals and mortuaries.
