SEKHUKHUNE MAKE LIGHT WORK OF LIVER BROTHERS

Sekhukhune United ensured their place in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 this week, after a resounding 6-0 thumping of Liver Brothers at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sekhukhune got the game off to a bright start, as Kabwe infiltrated the Liver Brothers defence as early as the 4th minute. With a chance gone begging, Babina Noko remained positive going forward and actively searched for a second goal.

The home side’s pressure paid off in the 12th minute, as Kabwe got his name on the scoresheet following a frantic attacking period inside the Liver Brothers half.

With a spring in their step, Sekhukhune upped the tempo and asserted themselves on the fixture by bossing the ball possession count.

After 30 minutes on the clock, Sekhukhune continued to be the more progressive side on the night and showcased their persistence in taking the game to the opposition defenders.

Sekhukhune kept their foot on the gas and continued to ask questions in the final third of the pitch. After being awarded a corner in the 36th minute, Cardoso was on hand to head home Babina Noko’s second goal of the encounter.

As the referee called time on the first 45, Sekhukhune headed into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

The home team went on the attack immediately after the restart and created a couple of goal scoring opportunities in the process. Unable to deal with the pressure, Liver Brothers conceded a penalty five minutes after the restart, as Ohizu tripled Sekhukhune’s lead.

Liver Brothers struggled to keep up with the pace set by Sekhukhune United and were put under relentless pressure around the 60th and 70th minute of the match. With wind in their sails, Babina Noko pushed on for their 4th goal of the night.

It was one way traffic towards the end if the tie, Mashikinya, Mncube and Morris added their names to the scoresheet as well before the final whistle was blown. After a tough evening for Liver Bothers at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Sekhukhune advanced to the Round of 16 courtesy of a rampant 6-0 win.
