LOUISE TSHAKOANE WAS ARRESTED ON TUESDAY

Louis Tshakoane has been arrested while attending a funeral.

Police apprehended a second person on Tuesday after arresting former Kaizer Chiefs public relations officer Louis Tshakoane in Mamelodi, Pretoria, earlier in the day.

Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said the second person, a 34-year-old, was arrested in Kempton Park.

Tshakoane, who has been on the run for two years, was arrested on Tuesday at the funeral of Alex Shakoane, the long-serving Mamelodi Sundowns public relations officer, affectionately known as “Goldfingers”.

Tshakoane is believed to have fled the country with his wife and son in 2020.

Police have been hunting Tshakoane, his wife and son in connection with fraud, theft and money laundering, totalling over R30 million.

Mogale said Tshakoane allegedly benefitted from an unregistered scheme, called “Undercover Billionaires”.

“He is reported to have participated in the presentations aimed at enticing potential investors with a promise of high returns. The amount of investments tendered was approximately R100 million,” she said.

A source, who spoke to News24 on condition of anonymity, said the family had disappeared in November 2020, the same time that Malawian-born televangelist, Shepherd Bushiri, fled back to his country while out on bail.

According to the source, Tshakoane’s son – who was on trial in the Johannesburg Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge – also skipped bail and disappeared at the time.

The source said police had found out last week that Tshakoane would be at Shakoane’s memorial service, and plans were then made to arrest him.
