Kelly Khumalo ordered the hit on Senzo’ — court told

Singer Kelly Khumalo has been specifically named in the murder case of Senzo Meyiwa.

During a court hearing at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa, two of the accused have involved Kelly Khumalo.

The court is conducting a trial-within-a-trial to determine if the confession statements made by the accused, Bongani Ntanzi and Muzi Sibiya, are acceptable.

Meyiwa was shot and killed on 26 October 2014 at Khumalo’s mother’s house in Vosloorus. Initially thought to be a robbery, the case was later described as a contracted assassination.

Brigadier Bongani Gininda, the lead investigator, presented an affidavit in court in which he mentioned that the investigation showed that Khumalo was linked to the crime through cellphone analysis.

According to Gininda, Khumalo had four phone numbers that she did not initially disclose to the police. These numbers were allegedly connected to her and linked her to two of the accused.

Gininda also said that the same photograph of a transparent bag full of money was found on both Khumalo’s and one of the accused’s phones, suggesting a connection.

He mentioned that Khumalo’s communications showed a desire to “get rid of” Meyiwa as early as 2013.

Post the shooting incident, Khumalo reportedly made several phone calls, but none to emergency services, and visited a traditional healer for cleansing.
