KAIZER CHIEFS ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF CALVIN JOHNSON HEAD COACH

Kaizer Chiefs have announced former Platinum Stars coach Calvin Johnson as the new Head of Academy at the club.

The 64-year-old will have full oversight of the club’s youth academy and scouting network. The role was previously held by Molefi Ntseki, who is now the head coach of Amakhosi.

Since Kaizer Chiefs appointed Johnson, some fans have speculated that the club was paving way for the former SuperSport United coach to take over from Ntseki.

Chiefs have had a rough start to the season, and after seven matches, the Glamour Boys have only won two. Ntseki’s position is not secure and should he fail his mandate before the season, Johnson might be forced to take over.

Amakhosi Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. gave an insight into the thought process behind the acquisition of Johnson, explaining, “We are delighted to bring Coach Cavin on board. He brings a wealth of knowledge that will continue to build our Academy programs and scouting network in order to take the Club forward with the aim of imprinting the Kaizer Chiefs philosophy throughout every level of the Club.

“We believe Coach Cavin possesses all the attributes to steer us in the direction we want to go, which is to continue to create an elite development model that will lead us to sustainable success into the future.”

Johnson gained invaluable experience during a successful period as assistant to Pitso Mosimane at Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, which included two CAF Champions League winners medals in 2020 and 2021.
