SA Women’s Football coach Desiree Ellis and former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe served as event ambassadors, commending the skills displayed by the participants. Ellis reflected on the broader purpose of the tournament: “It’s not just about football; it’s about empowering these girls to succeed in life. We were amazed by their ball control and confidence — it was a beautiful display.”
She also praised the quality of the UJ grounds, noting its importance for the girls’ development.
Despite the heartbreak for Fons Luminis players, the tournament promoted camaraderie, with all teams congratulating each other after hard-fought performances. Now in its fifth year, the programme continues to provide valuable life skills, helping girls across three communities realise their potential.

Ellis also spoke about the importance of life skills beyond the game, highlighting how confidence gained on the field translates to everyday challenges. “School football is huge, and this program is in its fifth year, reaching girls in three different communities, helping them realise their dreams,” she said.
Ten schools participated in the programme, including Madibane Comprehensive High School, Diepdale Secondary School, and Immaculata Secondary School. Keeping girls involved in extracurricular activities is key to empowering them during crucial developmental stages and advancing gender equality.
