AMAZULU FRUSTRATE ORLANDO PIRATES

Orlando Pirates were held to a 0-0 draw by AmaZulu FC in Tuesday evening’s DStv Premiership encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Despite the draw, the Buccaneers climbed up to the 13th spot on the league standings – two points above the relegation zone and they will now host Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Friday.

AmaZulu, on the other hand, moved up to the 10th spot on the standings – three points behind fourth-placed Moroka Swallows and they are set to take on Chippa United in Gqeberha on Saturday.

The Buccaneers saw most of the ball in the opening exchanges and they did threaten in the 15th minute with Thabiso Monyane forcing goalkeeper Veli Mothwa into making a decent save.

Pirates continued to push for the opening goal after the half-hour mark which saw Mothwa deny Evidence Makgopa who had attempted to score with a header and the score was 0-0 at half-time.

The second-half saw Bucs create more goalscoring opportunities, but they were wasteful as substitute Karim Kimvuidi’s acrobatic effort was gathered by a well-positioned Mothwa with 20 minutes left.

The last real chance of the game fell for Makgopa in the 76th minute, but the lanky forward failed to keep his header on target with the Usuthu defence exposed and ultimately, the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
