South African vocalist SPHEMusic is marking her return to music with “Lomuntu”, a soulful new single that reflects where she is creatively and personally at this stage of her journey. The song was inspired by being in a positive space and became an opportunity for her to capture that feeling through music. While the heart-felt lyrics are centred around love,“Lomuntu” is a warm, soulful dance record celebrating connection and reigniting her musical spark. Fresh yet nostalgic, the track pairs SPHEMusic’s emotive, singalong vocals with uplifting production, creating a sound that feels both heartfelt and infectious.
Produced by acclaimed producer Samurai Yasusa, one half of South African DJ duo Kususa, “Lomuntu” blends SPHEMusic’s distinctive vocals with a warm, melodic production designed to carry listeners through the summer. The record has an easy sense of movement while retaining the soulful quality that has long been associated with her sound.
“I was in a really beautiful space emotionally, spiritually and mentally, and I wanted to share that energy through music,” says SPHEMusic. “I think we often underestimate the power of simply sharing good energy and genuine love with the world.”
The release marks another step in SPHEMusic’s decision to return to music with greater intention. Having started her career as a teenager, she stepped away from the industry to focus on her education and build a successful corporate career outside of the music industry. Her return is now about reconnecting with the part of herself that has always been drawn to creating and performing.
“My songs are like pages from my diary,” she explains. “They allow me to express things I may not always know how to say in conversation.”
That personal connection to songwriting remains evident in “Lomuntu”, but the record also signals a shift in how SPHEMusic approaches her artistry. She is no longer simply revisiting where she started; she is building from that foundation and allowing herself the freedom to explore where the music can take her next.
“I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m giving myself permission to fully pursue what feeds my deepest passion and purpose. I’m doing me, and I’m allowing the music to lead the way.”
SPHEMusic’s journey began at just 16 when she was featured by DJ Bongz on “As Long As You Love Me”, a song that introduced her nostalgic vocal style to a wider audience. Years later, she returned to the spotlight with “Khuluma”, featuring award-winning songwriter and producer Mondli Ngcobo, which received strong radio and television exposure.
Her return also produced the 2022 debut album “Beautiful”, which established her as a solo artist and gave her room to tell her own story beyond the collaborations that first introduced her to audiences.
Now, with “Lomuntu”, SPHEMusic is looking ahead. She is working on an upcoming EP, with further collaborations and features in development as she continues to shape the next phase of her career.
She cites Tems as an artist she admires for her songwriting and emotional honesty, while a collaboration with Black Coffee remains on her creative wish list.
For SPHEMusic, “Lomuntu” is not simply a return to releasing music. It is a reminder of why she started in the first place — and a sign that she is ready to keep going.
