MEC Lebogang Maile has extended his well wishes to South Africa’s national teams as they prepare for a weekend of important international fixtures that will once again place the country in the global sporting spotlight.
This weekend, Bafana Bafana, the Proteas and the Springboks take on important challenges on the international stage.
Coach Pitso Mosimane will lead Bafana in his first match since returning as Head Coach as they start their campaign in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea on Saturday, 26 September at Orlando Amstel Arena. The Proteas on the other hand will take on Australia in the second ODI of their three-match series at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday following their impressive win during the first ODI while the Springboks will battle it out with Australia in a Test match at Optus Stadium in Perth.
“We take this moment to extend our well wishes to Bafana Bafana, the Proteas and the Springboks in their respective matches this weekend. The trio carry the hopes of millions of South Africans, and we know that representing our country at the highest level comes with immense pressure, responsibility and pride”, said MEC Maile.
“With three of our national teams competing in international games, this promises to be a good sporting weekend in the making for the country, especially as we are still celebrating Heritage Month. Sport is an important part of our heritage and keeps us united regardless of our diverse backgrounds and cultures”, added MEC Maile.
“We call on the supporters to rally behind the teams and buy tickets for the Bafana and Proteas games which are being played in the province. Once again, Gauteng is ready to welcome everyone from different places to experience the warmth and hospitality of our province”, he said.
MEC Maile further highlighted that Gauteng is also host to the iconic Standard Bank Joy of Jazz taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre. A spectacular opening night was held on 24 September for the 27th installation of the concert. The event offers attendees an opportunity to enjoy local and global sounds as part of celebrating the world’s artistic excellence and musical heritage
