The road to the 2026 Engen Knockout Challenge begins in eThekwini this weekend, as aspiring young footballers take to the field for the highly anticipated qualifying tournament at Hoy Park Sports Complex in Durban from 30–31 May 2026.
The annual qualifiers will see 20 boys’ Under-18 teams and 15 ladies’ Under-20 teams from across the eThekwini region competing for a coveted place in this year’s Engen Knockout Challenge. With only 24 tournament spots available, divided equally between the boys’ and ladies’ divisions, teams will need to bring their best performances as they battle for qualification.
The Engen Knockout Challenge remains one of South Africa’s premier youth football development platforms, providing young players with the opportunity to showcase their talent, gain valuable competitive experience, and take meaningful steps towards achieving their football ambitions.
Defending champions Durban Ladies FC will look to retain their crown in the ladies’ Under-20 division, while Junior Stars FC return as the reigning boys’ Under-18 champions following their triumph at the 2025 eThekwini leg of the tournament.
Tournament ambassador and former professional goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo encouraged participating teams to embrace the opportunity and make the most of the platform.

For many young players, this tournament is more than just a competition – it is an opportunity to showcase their abilities, learn valuable life lessons, and take a step closer to their dreams.
