The Motsepe Foundation hosted the 2026 Race to Gender
Equality, a public walk/run to raise awareness around gender gaps.
To mark ten years of advocacy through its Gender Equality, Wellness and Leadership (GEWAL) Centre,
the Motsepe Foundation was joined by official ambassadors for the Race, Caster Semenya and
Qhawekazi Mazaleni. Mazaleni successfully completed the 10 km race, using her platform to inspire
reflection and action on societal biases.
This year, over 2,500 runners – men, women and children – participated, highlighting that enduring
change requires all of our efforts.
Winners of the 10 km and 21 km races will share a total prize purse of
R560,000: https://live.ultimate.dk/desktop/front/index.php?eventid=7589
The Race to Gender Equality brings the gender equality movement into a public space, reinforcing
that institutional change must be supported by collective participation.
“Leadership happens at the top, but movements are sustained in society,” Dr Moloi-Motsepe said.
“The Race to Gender Equality has always been about connecting those two realities.”
